Runner's World Daily Kick in the Butt

Every morning, I get an email from Runner's World - Daily Kick in the Butt.  Most days, it is a quote that mentions running, etc.  The quote yesterday was:

Running improves my relationships with my family, my friends, everyone around me.  And while my running is personal, it's also something I give.  Running can be given. -- Tony Sandoval, M.D., winner of the 1980 US Olympic Marathon Trials

This quote could not have come at a better time.  This quote also could not be more true, especially for me.  The two weeks after the half marathon, my chiropractor recommended that I not run.  Those two weeks were extremely hard on me because of how much I enjoy running.  I felt like I wasn't as "in control", calm/relaxed, etc.

Last Thursday, I went on a run and immediately felt better.  I felt relieved of some invisible burden.  When I went to work the next day, I could feel myself just being in a better "place".  While I have always enjoyed running, being without that release for two weeks helped me realize how wonderful a gift running really can be - a gift for me and a gift for those around me.

  1. That's so interesting. 'Running can be given'. I never thought of that before.

Thanks for sharing this quote, girl. Love it.
