That is a question that I have been asked many times in May 14. The answer is "yes" and "no"...
Yes, I still enjoy running and I will continue to run on a regular basis.
No, I am not currently running a lot. I decided to be an absolute idiot on Tuesday, May 17 and run 4.5 miles around Shelley Lake. Needless to say, the only thing I earned from that day's run was an achy knee. My chiropractor said to spend lots of time with my foam roller and take some very short, slow runs for the next few weeks. I am thinking that I just went at the first run after the half marathon with a little too much gusto and my knee didn't like it one bit!
Last week I went to the gym on Wednesday and Thursday. I used the stairmill on Wednesday and the Arc trainer on Thursday. I am trying to do a little more cross training and weight lifting. After my personal training appointment tomorrow, I will no longer be working with a personal trainer once per week. I have purchased the New Rules of Lifting for Women and look forward to using the resource. I have heard a lot of great things about it!
I am not signed up for any races in June. I think I will take June off from running. I am planning to do the Historic Beaufort Road Race 10K in July. That will be a fun one!
Take care of yourself and you'll be hitting long distances again in no time!
ReplyDeleteFeel better! Sometimes rest is the best thing after a half like you ran. Walking is sometimes better than running (for me anyway) Good luck.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to back off from running from time to time, injured or not...especially after a big race! Congrats, btw. :)
ReplyDeleteI have had lots of knee troubles over the book and I highly recommend Pain Free by Egoscue for some simple moves that will help rehabilitate it. It helped me correct issues I had and kept me running when I otherwise would've had to moving and have knee surgery.
Also, if you ever want some suggestions on weight/circuit/conditioning exercises you can do anywhere, let me know. I have a ton of fun ideas I could share, or I'd love to get together with you and some of our mutual friends for a workout!
Apparently I can't type today. I meant to say "I have had lots of knee troubles over the years and I highly recommend the book Pain Free..."
ReplyDeleteSheesh! ;)
